Say What Needs to be Said

Unanswered Letters is a space dedicated to parents living with estrangement, ambiguous loss, or alienation. If you're carrying words that have nowhere to go, we have a place for them.

JOIN OUR COMMUNITY

We invite you to contribute a letter, poem, prayers, etc., written to a teenager or adult child who has chosen to cut you off.

Your letter may never be sent.

If sent, you have no idea if it was read.

Your writing doesn't need to try and resolve anything or defend you. It doesn't have to be “fair,” polished, or complete. Just honest.

You might write to express grief, anger, love, confusion, or all of these at once. Contradictions are normal and welcome here.

THEMES IDEAS

  • Separation and rupture
  • Longing and memory
  • Anger and accountability
  • Silence and ambiguity
  • Attempts at repair
  • Self-care, meaning-making, and resilience
  • Radical acceptance and gifts of estrangement
  • Inspirating and encouraging others
